Re: [A/S] Tow Vehicle Choice- Which van?

Hi Maurice,

I gave up trying to tow a 23 Safari with a 350 Chevy van. Just doesn't have
enough power off the flats. Since my future interest might allow the
trailer to grow to 27', I opted for the Ford F250 super duty quad cab power
stroke diesel. Never regretted the choice and I haven't towed a trailer
except for the new argosy that followed me home with out equalizer, etc.
The truck didn't even wink with a 22 foot tow.

I average 18.5 mpg without towing. My Chevy van averages 10 - gets 14 on
the road - 10 towing on relatively level ground. If Ford puts a power
stroke diesel in a van, that would be what you might consider. The V10 gets
horrible fuel economy.

Unfortunately, I opted for the automatic transmission against the lists
advice to stick with a manual. I'll have to deal with the tranny coasting
under 1K rpm. Maybe an exhaust brake, etc.

Again, I've never regretted my choice of the power stroke diesel. I
understand that the new Isuzu diesel used by GM is a great puller. Quiet
and powerful!
