Sam,

The Maxair fan fits OVER the existing vents and still allows them to 
open/close normally.  There are photos of my installation at:

Note that I had to take the "guts" out of the control box and customize the 
light/vent bezel that was stock with the trailer.  The one on the front is 
just a shroud, as the vent already had a fan.
