Jack, I had a problem like your where I couldn't operate the jack 
with a dead battery even though I was connected to the truck with 
the 8 pin plug and the truck running.  Andy, at Can-Am 
Dealership, suggested that I look at the truck fuses.  That was 
the problem, one of the fuses was blown.  On my Dodge truck 
there are 2 places for fuses, in the cab and near the battery.  The 
blown fuse was in the group by the battery in the truck engine 
compartment.
