[A/S] Tar removal

I have been out 'streamin and just caught up on the posts.  There was 
an inquiry about removing tar which a previous owner had used to coat 
seams.

If it is in fact ordinary tar then the first step is to remove as 
much mechanically as possible.  A wood or plastic scraper - a cheap 
ice scraper should do nicely here - and some heat would do the job.  
A blow dryer might work, but a regular heat gun would be better.  
Work a small area at a time, and try to get as much as possible.

The second step would be a chemical attack.  I would favor ordinary 
turpentine, the plastic scraper again, and lots and lots of rags 
(which will be at risk for spontaneous combustion - store in a water 
filled container after use).  And lots of fresh air.  The turp will 
disolve the tar, and it will want to run down the sides of your 
trailer, leaving streaks of tar.  Again, work a very small area at a 
time.

If as much tar was used as I suspect, this is going to be one major 
undertaking.
