Re: [A/S] Propane Tanks

Hi all.
In June of 2000 I had the OPD valves installed on both my 40# aluminum tanks
for $42.00, which included installation, at a place called "The Gas Works"
in Greenwood SC. When he installed the valves he purged the tanks and
recertified them, which only means he made sure that the tanks were free of
water, were not corroded and still serviceable. He told me when he did the
work that aluminum tanks last forever and that "recertification" was to make
sure the tanks weren't corroded on the bottom and did not leak. He also told
me that the only reason for recertification was that steel tanks have a
propensity to rust out on the bottom because of the water that will work
it's way into any tank over time. So if I were anyone who wanted to keep the
good, "expensive" aluminum tanks I would find a shop that specializes in
working on propane tanks like the "Gas Works". His shop is a privately owned
business and is not affiliated with a national chain so you'll have to go to
the "yellow" pages and look under propane supplies and you should be able to
find a place like "The Gas Works".
