Re: [A/S] Batteries For 1979 31' Soverign

AJ,
The Optima batteries should be quite good, albeit a bit pricy.

The best bang for the buck when it comes to batteries are Golf Cart
6-volt jobs. They're rated at over 200 AH, and will stand deep cycling
better than most, and far better than the 12-volt "RV/Marine" batteries
that are commonly used. The hangup is that GC batteries are a bit taller
than the common 12-volt batteries, so won't fit in many applications.
And, of course, you need a pair, wired in series instead of parallel.

I just got a pair of GC batteries from Sam's Club for under $100.00.
With my Inteli-Power converter and ("soon") solar system, I fully expect
them to last 5 or more years. They'll be mounted on the tongue of our
'new' Avion, behind the propane bottles, just like the OEM setup. The
catch is that I have to replace the existing battery box, meant to take
2, Group 24 RV/Marine batteries, with 2 larger boxes, sitting on a new
framework.
