I guess I should have clarified that the 7.00 x 15" tire is a light 
truck tire not a passenger car tire.   It has an 8 ply rating and it 
is extreamly durable.  

The 700 x 15" radial was an option on new Airstreams from 1971 
through to 1983 It was standard equipment on Excella 500's and 
Limited models.  They no longer use it because of politics in the RV 
industry not for any technical reason.  

I recomend a good Light Truck tire for a couple of reasons.  
The Travel Trailer tire is really a very inexpensive tire for the 
masses of low priced trailers out there.  If you are building 
something to compete in the low price segement of the industry a few 
dollars a tire is a big deal, not where my priorities would lie but 
that is the way it is.  If you do a panic stop and lock up a tire 
from 60mph-0 the travel trailer tire will often melt its tread off 
right to the cords.  The other thing I have trouble with is that they 
tend to go out of balance very quickly like those early radial car 
tires in the mid 70's.  Airstream is the only Rv manufacturer that 
actually balances the tires so you can see how this would not be a 
priority to the rest of the industry.
