[A/S] wheelbase VS max trailer length

I have read two to one.  The max length of the trailer should be no 
more than twice your wheel base (although, with thirty foot or better 
trailers, this gets pretty tough).  The less length below this ratio, 
apparently the better, as long as the tongue to axle length is not 
off its ratio.  Lots of ratios to consider.  Weight of trailer to 
weight of tow vehicle, wheelbase to trailer length, length of tongue 
to axle versus length behind axle, length of hitch drawbar.  So, as 
I've seen here before, if size doesn't count, length certainly does.
