Re: [A/S] travel bargain

In response to Terry's reply on travel bargains - on advice from a listee, we
purchased a Texas camping pass (Conservation Pass, I think it was called) for
$50 on a recent trip. We then could enter any Texas State park with no
additional user fee. We did pay for camping but the cost was half what a
commercial campground would charge, W & E included and showers were available
and most of the parks were in great places, away from traffic and railroad
tracks with spacious sites. As an added bonus, you can purchase a passport
for $1, get it stamped each night and get a free night with a two day stay
after 4 nights on the road. Buying this pass caused us to plan our trip a bit
differently than usual, but the rewards were great. I spent a weekat
Galveston Island State Park at the beach for very little money just a few
steps away from the surf. We also used our Golden Age pass (or whatever it is
called) at Big Bend, Bandelier in NM and Great Sand Dunes in CO - this last
was magnificent, BTW, if you have not been there.
