I just last week replaced my Firestone Steeltex tires (33,000
miles with some sidewall splits) with Cooper Discovery A/Ts.  In
my size (LT265-75R16E) the cost was $506, out the door.
Consumer Reports rated Cooper Discovery and Dayton Thorobred (sp?)
as "best buys" for replacement tires.  The Coopers have a 50,000
mile "guarantee".  Perhaps you can find a dealer in your area who
will "deal".  Good luck.
