Within certain power and transmission limits, I wouldn't let the truck
drivers of this group get up your nose too much.
Speaking from personal experience, I tow with an 89 Crown Vic. It has a
tranny cooler and is set up professionally so that the weight of the
trailer is distributed evenly between the four axles of our car and 74
International. I was having trouble with a bit of semi-wash on the 4
laners but I pulled the sway bar down another notch and found it to be
rock solid. I get about as much wash off a semi as off a SUV. Can't say
I don't feel it, but I've never felt out of control.
The 300 cubic inch motor pulls like a dream on the level. It works going
up hills but by the same token I've left some 5'ers in my smoke. We've
pulled through eastern Canada and through Pennsylvania's Route 30. You
have to make sure your trailer brakes are in good shape and that your
brake controller, again, is set up by a professional.
We enjoy the added room for us and the hairy one. Can't beat the ride.
