Re: [A/S] Leveling the trailer

Tom,

Just set the ball mount weight distributing hitch so that the TOP of the
ball is 19 1/2" from the ground with the tow vehicle loaded (with whatever
gear you expecrt to travel with, the fresh water tank filled and the tongue
weight of the trailer sufficiently transfered to the front wheels of the tow
vehicle - keeping the latter level via the hitch spring bars). The 19 1/2"
is the Airstream factory spec for your trailer.

Alternately, position the top of the ball about 20 1/4" above the ground
with the tow vehicle unloaded (approximately 3/4" higher than the loaded
position). This should end up pretty close. Your best bet is to go to an
experienced welder who has installed (and sells) a lot of weight
equializing hitches (Reese or EZ lift) - I like Reese. You can find these
companies in the yellow pages, or ask your car/truck dealer who they use for
hitches. Ditto the better RV dealers (need not be an Airstream dealer). If
you call several car and RV dealers, I'll bet that you will probably
converge on one or two hitch installation sources.

These guys will also know how to install the brake controller with a minimum
of hastle (if you do not want to do it yourself).
