Re: [A/S] New website about our 63 Globetrotter
I used a .025 aluminum sheet from Lowe's and cut it to fit the hole with
metal shears. I only needed a patch of anout 2 feet square. Used 3/16
aluminum rivets (from http://www.mcmaster.com/) with a large 5/8" head
to reattach the patch to the existing skin. While the hole was open I
painted all the exposed frame with POR-15 (www.por15.com) rust stopping
paint and then put new pink fiberglass insulation in the hole. I also
used the large head rivets to replace the old small head rivets that
originally held the aluminum bottom skin to the frame. The head of many
of my original rivets had lost their head and much of the skin was loose
and hanging down. I just drilled out the old remaining part of the rivet
and just a rivet gun to install the new large head rivet.
