Chuck,

I do it for 3 reasons.

1) I have found them to be the cheapest true deep cycle battery that
will fit my coach. This is important because it will deliver many
more cycles of discharge and charge before failing.

2) The will deliver more capacity than other batteries that fit my
coach.

3) Last and probably least, batteries in parallel will usually
present an unbalanced load to the charging current and not perform
the best for you. Batteries in series (such as two 6 volt batteries)
will look like a single battery and even they may not be of equal
impedance will charge equally and therefore perform better for you
and last longer. 

I know the techies are rolling their eyeballs at my explanation but
never-the-less that is why I do it.
