A better idea here would be to mark the position of the tire on the 
hub when removing it and replace it back in the same spot, hence 
removing the need to rebalance.

Ideally yes.  However, if you are only using the spare to get to a 
repair depot for the original, then it would get redundant to 
rebalance every time you put the spare on a different hub.

Balancing is extremely important tho.
