[A/S] Another battery maintenance question

I have a question that has resulted from the following information that was
submitted on two separate emails to the group.

Paraphrasing:

(A) "The standard converter (A/S calls theirs a "UniVolt") is junk in most
RVs. They don't charge a low battery very fast and tend to overcharge the
battery(s) when left plugged in all the time".

and the other email:

(B.) "Put your digital voltmeter on the battery terminals. If you're reading
much over 14.3 volts, you're overcharging the battery. If the reading is
down around 13.5, you're probably not getting the battery fully charged. If
the battery uses excessive water (needs filling more often than every couple
of months), it's being overcharged".


Since September our AS has been parked and "plugged in all the time". I just
checked the battery condition with my digital voltmeter and it recorded 13.2
"V" with everything turned off except the UniVolt. When I turn the lights on
(2 bulbs in each fixture, 2 fixtures) the digital voltmeter goes to 12.5 "V"
with the UniVolt turned off.

If I take the recommendation of "A" (above), I am doing something wrong.

My question. Should I still keep the UniVolt turned on all the time since
it's not even close to 14.3 volts or should I only turn it on for 24 hours,
one day per month while in storage? There is a switch that allows me to turn
the UniVolt off but keep the AC on which powers my DryIt dehumidifiers.

I have dual Gold Optima gel (don't take water) batteries and a 1999
Airstream Bambi.

Any response to my question will be greatly appreciated.
