 Hi Steve & Jim,

First Jim is right you need to be careful where you put heavy batteries, or anything 
else for that matter.  I felt pretty confident in the setup I have as I bought if from 
another Airstreamer friend who had the same rig as I have (1976 31') and had used it 
for about 10 years.  He kept it after buying a newer trailer as I had always told him 
I was interested in it.  The batteries are located just forward of the street side 
wheel well but inside the cabinet doors for easy access.

Basically it is a wooden tray reinforced with aluminum channels to hold the two group 
29 Interstate batteries which are contained in plastic Rubbermaid sealed containers.  
They are held in place by not only their weight but also bungie cords.  They are 
connected in parallel and have 10 A solenoid's (I think that is what they are) for 
each positive and negative post.  The venting is done with a rubber tube in the side 
of each container which then is stuck outside the trailer so any gas can escape 
outside.

I also have 4 solar panels and a 2,500 watt inverter that I put in myself which not 
only keeps the batteries topped up but provide the luxury of stopping for lunch and 
running our microwave for hot dogs, etc.
