Let me if it's ok.
The first for sure use of a gray tank was on the 1973 Excella 500. 
The Excella 500 was the top of the line that year and had all the 
toys they could put on it. The next model year a gray tank was on
all sizes. There have been some comments on this list of earlier 
gray tanks. 1973 is the oldest that Airstream will admit to.
