I totally agree with your thoughts. While I wouldn't
drive 200 miles to get an appliance worked on, any
purchaser of a new A/S gets a 2 year warranty on the
trailer and all components. Some of the manufacturer
warranties on these components are less than the A/S
warranty, so one would believe that under normal
conditions you need to be careful when getting
something repaired under warranty at a non A/S dealer.
My dealer told me that if I had a component fail while
on the road, call him first. They would instruct me
as to what action to take. I assume that means
possibly covering the cost of repair of an item that
is out of manufacturer warranty but under A/S warranty
if no A/S dealer is within a reasonable distance.
Once warranty is over I have no qualms about using
another authorized manufacturer's repair facility to
maintain an appliance product. When you get into
mechanical components, axle, body structure, things
that are unique to A/S, then a dealer or factory is
where my service will be.
