SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY. Thats part of the reason we have
sites like this. Just because "Airstream" said it,
doesn't mean that is the safest thing to do. The frame
is a "C" channel. If you use the "jack" pad to lift,
you must be extremely careful not to let the jack
slip. Or you can use a board between the jack and
frame and give yourself a little more help. But you
will be putting a stress on an area that you can't
see. Therefore, if you place the lifting jack, on an
area that you can see, the axle mounting plates, you
are many more times safer. We tend to forget that some
do it your selfers are not mechanics and they may not
understand as well as some others. If that's the case,
then why do we want to suggest to the novice to do
anything that could even remotely, be less than
maximum safety? Airstream does not write the manuals,
publishing companies do. That's why there was many
errors in the old "service manuals". Lets try and
offer help to each other, with safety in mind. If we
then use the "jack pads" for stabilizing only, all of
us, I think, will eliminate the possibility of getting
hurt. Even better, perhaps, not hurting our Airstream,
