[A/S] Keeping food cold while traveling

Patti,
Here is how I keep my food cold when I travel.  
1.  Pack food and drinks into the Airstream refrigerator the night before, 
and plug in the electric overnight so it gets nice and cold.
2.  Before leaving, take about a half dozen "blue ice" packs that have been 
frozen in my household freezer, and place them between the food items in the 
Airstream refrigerator.
3.  If it's a long trip, I buy a block of ice to put in the Airstream freezer 
compartment, otherwise I just make sure the ice cube trays are all full of 
ice.
4.  I travel with the gas off, so I do not open the refrigerator until I 
reach my destination and can plug in again, or light the burner.  I have a 
little soft-sided cooler pack that I keep in the truck with water and snack 
items for the trip, so I don't need to get into the refrigerator.

This method works well for me.  My longest trip was 16 hours of driving in 
one day, and the food was still cold in the refrigerator when I arrived.  
Upon arrival, I put the blue ice packs up in the freezer compartment to get 
solid so they'll be ready for the ride home.
