[A/S] Airstream repairs and changes

Today was a long tough day. Removing the old disc brake equipment is
a difficult chore. The best way was to use a cutting torch. Since
1979 this trailer has had lots of brake fluid and battery acid leaked
everywhere. The brake components , the LPG tank rings and the front
under frame sheet metal has been removed. The sheet aluminium was
very corroded and of little value. The layout, design and execution
are all suspect. There is a relationship between quality and junk
based on money. It is my opinion that many areas can be vastly
improved with much greater useability and longivity. This trailer?s
LPG tanks are to have new higher retaining rings, different style
clamping stud and new bolts for tank to rings. There are many tales
of tanks that took flight. The new electric brake system will be
located forward to ball coupler. The master cylinder shall be able to
leak away from any framework. The under frame sheet metal will be
replaced with thicker metal and be able to be removed for easier
inspection. The batteries boxes shall be made to drain away any water
or acid directly to the roadway. An airway shall force air thru boxes
enroute. A new converter box shall be located lower into the floor
but easily serviced from living area. There is not a lot of service
required except for replacement.
The factory fuses for tail, turn, backup brake lites shall be
eleminated. The tow truck has fuses for protection. The remaining
fuses will be changed to manual circuit breakers and relocated to a
more convenient location. The a/c circuit breaker box will undergo
relocation and some increase in ampacity for a micoware oven on
separate circuit with the inclusion of a main breaker????Whew??. Frank R.
