You get a different answer to this question depending on the towing 
experience of whoever you ask. Ask those of us used to towing travel 
trailers and we tell you: "Of course you need an equalizing hitch."

Ask a person who tows horse trailers or cargo trailers and he will say: "Of 
course not - whatever made you think you needed a equalizing hitch?"

I think we started using equalizing hitches back when we towed with 
automobiles and it has carried forward from there. I might be wrong.
