[A/S] Re: Tow Vehicle Question

We need a little more information. First you need to know the actual
GVWR of the Safari. The older Airstreams are lighter than the new
ones. That is generally because the new units have heavier wood
cabinets inside.

Second, what is the rear axle ratio of the pickup truck. The higher
numerically (4.10 vs 3.8 )means "lower" (don't ask why:):) and it is
generally better for pulling weight as it moves the torque to lower
rpms when pulling the vehicle.

In 1971 the v-8 engines were starting their decline in horsepower,
with lower compression ratio and the need to run unleaded fuel. But
1971 should be OK. By late70's and early 80's economy was king and
horsepower low.

Does your pickup have a 2 barrell or 4 barrell carburator. Do you
know the horsepower and torque ratings?
