Now I've been saving for retirement for a long time so I could get whatever
I pleased, and really wanted a Dodge 3500 Diesel Dually Quad Cab Long Bed
(Freudian compensation or little boy big truck dream? -- maybe they're both
the same thing!)  Anyway, Andy Thompson, who has test driven countless
Airstreams with different tow vehicles finally convinced me to go with the
2500 Quad Cab Short Bed.  It seems it's much easier to back into a space
with the shorter truck.  The 6 speed manual transmission (with 4x4) can
creep slowly almost anywhere.  The difference in the weight one can pull
with the 3500 is not too much more, because of the weight of the dually
axle.  The Dually is 8 feet wide which is the size of a standard parking
space, if you plan to sight see with the tow in towns -- less hassle
parking.  I ordered the camper special package and the heavy duty springs
also.  The truck drives like a dream, though I haven't towed the 34' with it
yet.  Soon, though.  I'm new to trailering and even a pick-up, though I've
always driven manual transmissions.  So I figured I'd go with what's easier
for now.  Hunter also advised that a 2500 with an extended cab and short bed
would be much more pragmatic.

Lots to think about.  I will say that everyone I've talked to with the long
one ton duallys love them and adapt to the parameters.  Maybe next time.
