[A/S] Spare tire carrier

Greetings all
We have a '71 31' Excella, A while ago I bought a spare tire carrier 
that goes in the underbody in the front. 

Either I didnt get or I lost the instructions on how to install this. 
I know you have to cut the underbody and bolt it in.

Do you cut the underbody flush with the frame? or do you leave
"flaps" to wrap aroung the frame, then get another piece of aluminum 
to seal in the flooring.

Has anyone done this and have any hints or suggertions.
