[A/S] Ford-Powerstrokes

Powerstroke aficionados:

Actually, International/Navistar offers that engine in medium duty trucks up
to around 26,000 lbs. gvwr, possibly up to around 30k. I assume it is
identical or nearly so to the ones Ford buys and installs in Superduty
trucks. The International trucks using that engine can be identified by the
designation: "DT466E" at the rear of each side of the engine cover or hood.
Don't know how to decipher DT, it probably translates to
diesel-turbocharged. "466" refers to cubic inches of displacement (7.3
liters, 466 ci) and "E" identifies electronically controlled fuel injection.
The trucks rated at around 30k and higher gross weights use a DT488E which
is an inline 6 cylinder engine which is more closely related to the larger
Class 8 truck engines.

The engines can definitely be serviced at Navistar dealers for non-warranty
work. I haven't had any work done yet but I have already discovered that
the lube oil, fuel water separator, and air filters for my Dodge-Cummins are
much! cheaper purchased from Cummins dealers and they are much more
knowledgeable and loyal to the product than Chrysler-Dodge dealers who
probably sell far more mini-vans and small cars.

I assume all of you Ford-PSD owners are already familiar with the Navistar
website: http://www.navistar.com? It is informative. Also, there is a
discussion list for Ford-PSD owners but I deleted the address when I decided
on a Dodge-Cummins instead of a Ford-PSD. (I still feel a little disloyal
having been a satisfied Ford truck owner for many years.)
