Re: [A/S] Tow Vehicle Rental?
Orbit,
Yes, per loaded mile, not travel distance to pick up the trailer and return
to the hauler's original location or home base as local wrecker services
normally charge. Mileage is normally determined from an official mileage
publication not the route that the driver takes. A rough method of
calculating the charge is $1.00/mile but I think Rick quoted a price of
$0.75 or $0.80/mile a few months back. If you need to move one from coast
to coast or a distance close to that it sounds like a lot of money but it
costs to operate and maintain a truck and the trip frequently requires
lodging and meals for more than one day. Typically the owner would have to
take time away from work and make a round trip of double the distance in
order to move one so all things considered, it is not bad to pay the rate,
particularly for the new owner/trailer puller buying his first used trailer.
Rick Davis is very experienced, insured, etc. He would know how to deal
with bad electrical connections, faulty lighting, bad tires, unserviced
wheel bearings, etc in the event problems occur.
