Norma,

I can't possibly say what happened to cause the van/suv and trailer to 
flip...... but I have some guesses.......

The van/suv wasn't a proper "tow vehicle" it had a short wheelbase and high 
center of gravity.

The trailer don't have proper no sway equipment..... it could have been 
bouncing on the ball

The "truck trailer" could have gone flying by setting up a fishtail situation

The truck trailer could have been on it's side when the trailer/suv came up 
on it... he slammed on his brakes and got to fishtailing.....

Any of these scenerios could spell disaster. FWIW I've only seen one TT over 
on its side in my whole life.... so it's not that common. 

I have a big tow vehicle and a hitch that will *not* let the trailer sway or 
fishtail.... I don't worry about it.

I doubt anyone died, the dad wouldn't have been rescuing bicycles....
