I believe that his is around the time that Airstream changed ownership hands and
they may have tried some cost cutting ideas out.

I would imagine that back then a bulb would have been cheaper to buy then a
LED/neon.  My '73 Excella has Bulbs in the control panel, but I just saw a '77
excella with LED's in it. So . . . .
