I tried a heat gun with no  success.  I resorted to a razor blade in the end. 
 The plastic was very hard and dry after years in the desert sun here.  I did 
not try the wet cloth and heat gun or iron ( did not hear of this one til 
after the fact)  I think that method may have done the job.
