Re: [A/S] Vintage Tow Vehicles Towing Vintage Airstreams
I own a 1979 Ford E-150 which is not quite vintage pulling my 1966
Safari. There is a picture at http://mrminimal.com
It is loaded down with (what I consider) ineffective emission control
devices. The smog pump broke, the catalytic convertor stuffed and the
hoses clogged.
I originally had to pay $300 smog fee for bringing it into Calfironia but
that fee was later refunded as illegal. If my van had been a 1975 instead
of 1979 none of the very stringent smog provisions would have applied.
For example, I could have swapped out the 351 Windsor engine for the more
powerful 460. But since my puller is not "vintage" I am not allowed to
make that swap. I dream of having a vintage puller that can be optimized
for performance. I guess it's just the hot rodder deep within, but I would
highly recommend a well maintained vintage puller to anyone who has the
mechanical acumen to keep it in top shape.
