Tire and wheel are available separately. The wheel used these days is a garden
variety steel wheel painted gray. One item to be careful of is the load rating.
There are several different load rated wheels that look the same. The wheel you
want must be at least 2000 lb rated.
Since the advent of the Duro Torque axle spare tires have not been a common
feature. The reason is with 2 or more axles you can tow an Airstream without a
wheel/tire on one end of one axle. The basic design of the axle keeps the spindle
off the ground. The failure rate of radial tires makes the likely hood of a flat
even rarer. Of course if one does go it will make a mess of the wheel well.
Of course the axle will drag just a little on a single axle coach, thus the
mandatory spare.
The tire Airstream uses is the Goodyear Marathon ST225 75R 15 load range D. Any
brand tire of that size will work. It is recommended that both tires on an axle
be of the same brand.
Here we buy the tire and wheel locally and paint them. Same quality, much better
deal for our customers.
