Re: [A/S] Re: Towing Vehicle!

I had a 83 6.2 diesel subberan I towed a 24ft tradewind with it.It was dead
going up hill it delivered 10mpg when towing and about 17mpg empty. 160k
miles 2injector pumps 3 airconditioner compressers an unkown number of
starters 2 transmitions 3 speed hydromatics. 1 dashboard fire and other small
provlems. I now have a 92 Dodge with a Cummings diesel A thip from FL. to PA
it avraged 15 mpg topped eavery mountain in 5th gear(manual transmition) it
gets aboute 22 mpg empty around town. Down side The manual tranrs unravled in
Mexico I have driven for 60 years and never destroyed a manual transmition
one jumped out of gear on a straight level road at 48mph.and that was the end
of it.The truck only had 96k miles on it. After being towed out of Mexico at
great expence the new transmition cost $3900 list $4300 labour and taxes
brought the boll up to $5140. A weeks wait to get one shipped in as it was
not a stockpart. Jim Dunmire has nothing good to say about a Dodge manual
transmition. He panned it so bad that I am afraid to eaver try to tow my
trailer anywhere again with it. I dont know if he knows what he is talking
about or not. My brather towed a 17500lb 5th wheethailer 130k miles with the
twin to my truck and never expearanced any provlems except de needed more
stopping power and had a jake break installed. his dodge had a 5 speed
thansmition also.
The cummings has tremendious low end tourque. In spite of my provlems I would
not trade it back for my Diesel suberan. The 6 cylinder in line engion is
much simpler to worp on as eavery thing is out in sight and not hidden as
things are in a V8.
