If the problem is that the handle part came off the crank part, this is 
what I did:

If your cranks are like mine, you should be able to assemble the two 
parts back together and then, while supporting the handle end on the 
garage floor or some other immovable structure, place a punch (in this 
case a bolt of the proper diameter would work) in the hole in the crank 
and peen the handle metal until it doesn't come off.  The handle is 
"riveted" to the crank and after a million or so revolutions, wears out 
enough to slip off.

Worked like a charm for me.  Good for another million revs.
