RE: [A/S] cyclo polisher question

OK, It sounds like there are a lot of people out there who really want to
polish. I'm assuming that you are starting from an unpolished state, not
just wanting to buff a shine back up.

The best polishers can be bought from a professional auto paint supply
store. They start at about $125.00. They also will carry a variety of
pads, and different compounds, depending how bad off the metal is to start
with, and depending on where you are in the process. Snap-On of course,
seems to have the best unit, and it is very pricey. One important note; you
must get one that has a variable speed control, because the head can spin so
fast, that you can 'burn' the metal; not a place you want to go. The second
control you will probably want will be a switch, that can lock in the 'on'
position so that you don't have to hold it all the time. I've been using
professional polishers for 15 years now and my preference is air powered.
The switches on these units have long arms which control the switch, so your
finger or hand doesn't get tired.

For really good information about using this device, and to check out
different models, go visit your local auto refinishing body shop. Most of
them use air powered units because they are lighter, and there is no worry
about electrical shock if the cord falls into water on the floor, which they
use to keep the dust down. But, they should also have an electric one or
two. If you ask them for their opinion on different models, they may not be
as condescending as sometimes may be the case. Be sure to talk to a worker,
and not a sales man type.

Others with polishing experience; lets hear your take.

Thanks,
Kimm
