Re: [A/S] EU3000is , Honda
The EU3000is runs the A/C just fine. I rarely use the A/C when I'm
above 5,000 feet, but it's nice to have the power when it's needed.
The Univolt is the most inefficient source you can imagine for charging
batteries, as it only supplies "excess" current to charge. I suppose if
all DC loads were disconnected you might get a better charge rate, but
as Jim says it's best to have a good multi-stage charger. Just run it
off of whatever genset you have, direct to the battery. Don't use the
shore power line and Univolt for that purpose.
I''m still fine-tuning the solar system, and will add seperate
panels/batteries just for the DC side of the trailer, then get rid of
the Univolt altogether. My brother has done that on his motorhome, and
just got back from a three week trip, mostly without hookups, and never
ran the genset. Solar did most of the work.
