I've heard of the "breaking out" method, and it is
just that - breaking them out.  I don't think it's the
best option because if someone put it in (gently), it
can be (gently) taken out.  I've also heard that they
are sealed fixtures so that they provide some sort of
insulative properties, I'm sure that it's not rocket
science to retain a large percentage of the insulative
properties, if not all.  Like Roy, I speak with only
the authority of what I've been told coupled with what
I would try -- I'd probably contact an airstream
dealer 1st for a replacement part, look for a parts
vehicle second, or have new panes made from lexan or
acrylic third.  Just my opinion.
