Does the expression "FRIED" mean anything to you? :^(

I would assume that anything that was connected to the panel (e.g..
breakers on) is toast.  That would probably include the univolt, unless
the line fuses went quick enough to keep smoke at bay.  Slim chance but
not an impossibility.

The flip side of the scenario is that it would take a real effort to get
the power cord into a 220 volt receptacle.  The plug just wouldn't fit
normally, it would require that someone wire a standard 110 volt device
to 220 volts or force the 110 volt cord cap into a non standard
receptacle or cord body.  Not impossible, but rare.  So maybe the owner
just THINKS he tested it at 220. In your favor of course, is the fact
that the type NM (Romex) cable used will certainly take the voltage
without damage.  If the wiring is aluminum I personally would consider
that a write off as well, however.

At that price, the shell/running gear alone make it attractive.  I'd
probably go for it if I had facilities to work on it, just for giggles
and grins.  (They don't call me Batty Matty for nothing; and a
reputation is a terrible thing to waste!)  I'd just assume the worst,
and hope for the best.  Been there, done that, and we're still married
after near 30 yrs (of honeymoon).  ;^)
