Re: [A/S] Exhaust brakes



I was hoping someone else would.... here goes.  This is the short version.

Diesel engines don't slow down when you are going down hill and let off the
accelerator.  Gas engines do.

Because of this, if you have a diesel truck and are pulling a trailer and you
are driving down steep mountain grades.... you have to ride your brakes, or
shift into low gears, to keep the truck from running away......

The exhaust brake makes the truck hold its speed instead of speeding up....
it might speed up a little, but it's not freewheeling like it would without
the exhaust brake.
