Phil,
 Chances are good that your 12VDC wiring is also copper. It's not that
big a deal if you know about it and take proper precautions.

Go to your local hardware or electrical supply store and get some
"anti-oxidant paste"; it usually comes in a tube. Make a list of every
connection in your trailer, then methodically disassemble each device
(switches, receptacles, etc.), clean the connections if they're at all
corroded, smear them with the paste, and reassemble. If the wiring
appears to have been overheated as you describe, you'll need to cut off
the end of the wire, strip back the insulation, and make a new
connection. If the device has been scorched, replace it, making sure
that the new one is rated "Cu/Al". DO NOT USE those devices that have
pushin connections, use only screw-type connections, and make sure that
they're TIGHT when reassembling them.

In the meantime, avoid using electric heating devices of any kind.

Many of the late 60's A/S trailers have aluminum wiring, my '68 G.T.
did.
