TWIMC -

Sault St. Marie, Michigan.  Arrived at about 6:00 PM after a long drive
from Romeo.  I dropped of the bent hitch part and picked up my new
"elephant ear" mirrors.  Very nice mirrors.  I can see a lot better
now!  They will be great for backing.  Not that I back into too many
places, but one small mistake damaging the aluminum skin would make the
price of the mirrors insignificant.

The trip north started at about 10:30 when I pulled out of Romeo onto
SR53 north to I-69 to I-75 on north to Sault St. Marie.  The rolling
hills of southern Michigan faded into flatter landscapes of lower hills
and fir trees interspersed with white birch.  Definitely getting into
the north land again.  Traffic thins out, towns thin out and the road
goes on and on.  I am surprised at how bad the highways in the US are
as I drive around.  Mexico 1, the highway which runs the length of the
Baja California peninsula is no worse than many roads I am driving on. 
And that includes the interstates.  Is sure hope the state and federal
governments star pouring some money into the infrastructure.  The
inside of the trailer looks like a wolverine got in and tore the place
up while I was driving.  Of course that could not happen if the dogs
were in the trailer to protect it from wolverines.  :o)  But they
insist on riding with me and watching out the window in between naps
and pee breaks at rest areas.  I sure wish they would keep the
wolverines out.  Maybe as the trip progresses.  Yeh; right.

Tomorrow I cross from Sault St. Marie in Canada and head west on Canada
17.  I checked the map earlier and it is 440+ miles form here to
Thunder Bay.  There is a lot of Canada.  In surface area I think that
Russia is larger or was when it was the Soviet Union; China, too,
maybe, but  not the US.  I forget, but Canada is huge, folks.

I will check out the provincial parks which I have heard are very good.
 Clean, well set up and cheap.  A full-timers dream.  I am looking
forward to this westward trek.  Things are really spread out along the
Trans Canada, I guess much like the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

More as the trip unfolds.

BTW, camping tonight in a WalMart.  I am alongside two huge motor
coaches.  If they are chintzy enough to duck paying a campground fee,
why should I deny myself?

BTW -  The Sault of Sault St. Marie is the name of a local Indian
tribe, also.  So now we all know what it means.
