Hunter,
 We have 2 dogs and 5 cats ourselves (4 in the house, one outside cat),
and it appeared that this could be a problem when we wanted to "go".
Over the years, we've been able to get a neighbor or friend to feed 'em,
but starting last year when we got the A/S, we started travelling enough
that this was no longer an option.

Very fortunately, we heard of a pet-sitting service in our area (Monroe
Co, MI) called Pet Pals. They stop by our place every day and feed the
entire menangerie for one price: $10.00 per day. They have signed forms
from us allowing them to take the animals to a vet if necessary, with
our promise to pay, a set of keys and alarm codes for the house and
shop, etc. They even grab the papers and mail from the boxes out front
and put it all in one place.

Besides being cheaper than boarding them out, it's much less bother for
us and the animals don't have their routines disturbed. I just call Pet
Pals, leave a message on their machine, leave the money in the dog food
can, and it's taken care of.

Dunno how many other places have services like this, but it's sure worth
looking into for folks who travel on a less-than-fulltime basis and
can't or won't take their pets along.
