     You can get the same diameter tires on 15" or 16" wheels. 
If you use the English size designations the choice is simplified.
For example, a 33/12.50R15 and a 33/12.50R16 are each 33 inches
in diameter.  The metric designation, which uses an aspect ratio,
requires a little math to arrive at the diameter.

     This is simply not true.  In fact, the load carrying ability
of pickup trucks is much improved in recent years, with greatly
improved braking and handling.  I'm very pleased with the performance
of my 1999 F250 Superduty when carrying 1500 lbs over the rear axel.
The first time I did it, carrying a pallet of bottled water (186 gal),
I expected light steering and woeful brakes.  In fact, it drove much
like an unloaded vehicle!  I relaxed and enjoyed the drive.
