Hi all,

My apologies to everybody who is already dealing with this
exercise on the Vintage List - but we are doing a similar thing
with the Airstream List today.

As Hunter noted in her message of last night, I have been 
fussing around with new hardware lately, and as a consequence
am finally able to ditch the old Majordomo, in favour of a shiny
new list server called Mailman. Mailman is fairly new in the list
server world, and is umpteen times more configurable and 
userfriendly than the old Majordog. As Hunter mentioned, the
new server supports digesting, archiving, message suspension
for when you go away on holiday, and a plethora of other options
that can be tailored for each individual user. All of which is
accomplished through a simple web interface.

Unlike the process currently underway on the Vintage List, we
do not need to ask everybody to go and sign themselves up on
the new list server. There are no chronically bad accounts, so I will
simply move the old distribution list over to the new server. Once 
I have done this - *everybody* will receive a welcome message
from the server with information on how to post to the list, what
the list homepage is, and what your private password is for managing
your subscription. You will need this password if you want to set
digesting options for example.

If you do not receive a copy of the welcome message at some point
today, then *email* either Hunter or myself (ewan@conflab.com) and
let us know so that we can check that you are subscribed properly.
Once everybody is moved over, I will be shutting down the old list at 
some point tonight. All list traffic will then be conducted by emailing 
airstream@list.airstream.net
