Hi Steve,
I have used a product called "Sun Magic" for removing stains.  First heard 
about it from the company who installed carpet in our new house.  Have used 
it for a variety of stains and it seems to work well on all except grease.  
Our neighbors had a leak and had rust stains on their carpet.  Took that out 
too.
