FWIW -  California wanted $887 to reregister our '9 30W Excella.  I registered it, our '94 Dodge 2500 diesel, 
got a drivers licence and paid all the onetime fees and came out under $550.  Of course one reason it is 
cheap in Texas is that Texas offers fewer services than California.  You get what you pay for.  As I am on the 
road 100% I have no problem registering in Texas and am a legal Texas resident.  No state income tax, 
either.  But, no beautiful blue Pacific, weather I won't talk about and the produce just ain't the same.  The 
BBQ is great, though.

Just like the rest of life it is compromises.
