Not sure who told you a new one is not an exact fit. The current Atwood
brand pilot model water heater's are the recommended replacements for
the old Bowen's. It is best to use the old door as the new ones come
with a Polar White door. Of course replacing a water heater that has
been Vulkemed into place for 26 years is no picnic, but it can and is
being done quite often.
