Re: [a/s] Rivets Rivets Rivets

Hi Stefan,
First of all you might want to post this question to the VAC list
www.airstream.net They are the ones that like to drill rivits, etc. I
belong to both lists and get lots of posts but enjoy them all.

To remove a rivit you carefully drill them out. You don't want to bore out
the hole to a larger dimension so you start with a small drill bit. I start
out with a smaller drill bit, drill thru the center, and then try a little
larger drill bit. The idea is that once it's drilled thru, the head of
the rivit will just fall off and the inside part of the rivit will just fall
inside the body. Now you're ready to install the new rivit. You can get
rivits at www.rivetsplus.com or www.airstreamdreams.com . You want to get
the Olympic rivets that can be shaved off so they look just like the
original Airstream rivet (i.e. no hole in the middle). Airstream Corp
recommends using the Olympic rivets with the black neopreme washers, others
will recommend using a little Vulkem under the head as a sealant.

Glad to hear your working on the '60 Safari and hope to see it on PBS soon.
