I am in the same boat - I have a 63 airstream that is HEAVILY oxidized. 
I'm curious as to what brand machine buffer you used/recommend.  The
only one I'm aware of is the one by Airmark at about $1000 apiece.  I
started out with Homers Miracle Metal polish but it doesn't remove the
deep oxidation.
